Magazine Cover 15 Extra Credit points (Due with Magazine Layout)
For this project you must create a new magazine and design a cover to go along with the Magazine Spread. You will be evaluated both on the creativity of your idea and the effectiveness of your final product.
Requirements:
- Your magazine must have a unique name and style.
- You may use your own photos or a friend’s photos, but you MUST credit the source where you got the image.
- All images used must be properly toned.
- It can be created in Photoshop or InDesign and should measure 8.5 x 11 inches
- You must save your finished product as an unflattened .psd file or .indd file.
- The file should contain at least 4 layers including, but not limited to: a nameplate, a main image, main story teaser and at least 2 minor story teasers.
RUBRIC FOR GRADING:
Technical skills: 7 pts
Does the student display an understanding of using layers, color and type in Photoshop or InDesign? Are all included images the correct resolution and toned properly? Is the finished file the correct size and saved in the right formats?
Concept & Design: 8 pts
How creative is the concept? Did the student create a magazine that serves a specific viable audience? Does the title of the magazine fit the audience? Do the main story teaser and minor story teasers fit with the theme of the magazine? Does the design of the magazine fulfill the concept? Did the student follow the basic design principles of CRAP (contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity)? Is there a clear main subject and story teaser? Do the font(s) and colors used fit with the audience?
