Lab Rules & Information

Lab rules

My goal for this class is to teach you the basics of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign and how to use these programs to create solid designs. Below are the basic guidelines for the lab:

  1. Once class has started all web browsers should be closed. Checking e-mail, using Facebook, Twitter, checking sports scores, etc. while class is being conducted will result in an absence for the day. If you are given free time at the end of class, then you may open an Internet browser for personal use.
  2. No cell phones, iPods or mp3 players are to be used during the lab. This includes texting and accessing the Internet. Your phone should be on silent or turned off during class time. You are free to use these devices during open lab time.
  3. If you are not going to make it to class please e-mail me as soon as possible with your reason. You are allowed up to three excused absences or one unexcused absence. Exceeding these numbers will result in a lower participation grade for the semester. Lateness will also effect your participation grade.
  4. You will have four projects this semester. All elements of the project are due at the beginning of class unless otherwise stated.
  5. All parts of the project are to be handed in in class. Any piece of the project e-mailed to me counts as late. You will receive a 5-point deduction for each item e-mailed or each week your project is late. DO NOT count on printing out your papers in class, more often then not the printer is jammed or out of paper.
  6. All papers and projects should be spell-checked. Papers should use full sentences and correct punctuation.
  7. You will receive a participation grade for posting on this blog, attendance and participation in class critiques. Blog assignments will be made weekly and are due by the beginning of class.
  8. There are two blogs for this class. Assignments given in lab should be posted here. This includes all design projects.
  9. Everyone needs some form of portable memory to complete your projects. (such as a USB flash drive.  I’d recommend at least 1 GB. Also, save a back-up copy of your projects in case your USB drive gets lost. Do not try to make it through the semester by e-mailing yourself your projects. It’s also a good idea to save all your projects until the end of the semester.
  10. I do not have office hours, but please feel free to e-mail me (tara.askin@temple.edu) anytime and I will probably get back to you promptly.
